SOCU Continues with Impressive Growth

April 3rd, 2015

The success SOCU has attained since it opened in 1939 comes as no surprise to Kathy Lucas, the credit union’s CEO. “SOCU enjoys a strong brand presence in the community, but we’re growing and changing just like any other local business should and does,” Lucas said.

SOCU has committed itself to an aggressive growth approach that began with Streator at the focal point. SOCU has 90 employees, three locations in Streator and one location in each Dwight and Pontiac. The credit union’s assets have grown from $89 million and 14,728 members in 2006 to assets over $200 million and 25,271 members currently.

The credit union owns a significant share of the Streator market, placing SOCU among the top three financial institutions in the city. “We are performing at unprecedented levels, and we’re also gaining recognition on a national stage,” Lucas said. “In October, we were recognized by DepositAccounts.com as the 132nd ‘Healthiest Credit Union in America’ (6,600 credit unions ranked), a distinction that puts us in the top 2 percent of credit unions nationwide.”

Service is evolving at SOCU. “While Onizers still value a handshake, a smile and recognition by name, there is an increasing expectation of convenience and remote delivery of service through online and mobile means,” Lucas said. “Our goals in 2015 and beyond are to continue to meet our members’ and communities’ expectations of truly local service, while also becoming the ‘anytime, anywhere, any way’ financial solution.”

SOCU is proud to have assisted many charities through the hard work and volunteer efforts of both credit union members and employees, raising over $75,000 for local beneficiaries in 2014.

SOCU is a full service financial provider to ANYONE who lives or works in La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, Grundy, Putnam, Bureau, McLean or Woodford counties.
