Your new SOCU Visa Credit Card will include enhanced fraud monitoring, unique card numbers for each cardholder on joint accounts, expanded card controls within our mobile app, and our new Perks Plus Rewards including cash back for SOCU Perks cardholders.

What’s Changing & Why

Why is my card number changing?

• Each cardholder on a joint account will now receive their own unique card number.

• This upgrade allows us to introduce new technology, enhanced security, and improved card features for all members.

If we are joint cardholders, will each person now have a different card number?

• Yes. As part of this upgrade, each cardholder on a joint account will receive their own unique card number for improved security, personalized controls, and better fraud protection.

Will my account number stay the same?

• Yes. Your SOCU member account number stays the same, only the SOCU Visa Credit Card number (the 16-digit number on the card) is changing.

Is this related to fraud or a data breach?

• No. This change is part of a planned program enhancement to provide more offerings to our membership as well as improve cardholder security and convenience by allowing individual card numbers for joint cardholders.


Credit Line, Limits & Credit Score

Will this affect my credit score?

• No. Your account history and credit reporting remain unchanged.

Will my card limits or credit line change?

• No. Your overall credit limit and any individual spending limits remain the same. Only your card number is changing.

If we are joint cardholders, will each person now have a different card number?

• Yes. As part of this upgrade, each cardholder on a joint account will receive their own unique card number for improved security, personalized controls, and better fraud protection.


Shared Credit Line will remain the same.

• Even though each joint cardholder will receive their own card number, their credit line will remain joint.


Do I Need to Take Action?

Do I need to reapply for a credit card?

• No. This is an automatic upgrade to your existing account.

Will my existing PIN still work?

• No, instructions will be included with your new card.

Can I request my new card earlier?

• To ensure security and consistency across all members, cards cannot be sent early. All replacement cards will be mailed during the scheduled production window.


Card Delivery & Activation

When will my new card arrive?

• Most members will receive their new card between late April and early May.


What happens if my card doesn’t arrive prior to May 18?

• If your new card has not arrived prior to May 18, please contact us on May 18 to have another card issued.


Will I still be able to use my current card if I haven’t activated the new one yet?

• You can use your current card until May 18, 2026. On that date, your current card will no longer work.


What if I’m the primary cardholder but my joint cardholder doesn’t activate their card?

• Your card will still function normally, but their card will not work after May 18 until they activate their replacement card.


Payments, Digital Wallets & Subscriptions

What about recurring charges?

• For any merchant that keeps your card on file (streaming services, utilities, online retailers), update your new card number once your replacement card is activated.

Will my automatic payments through bill pay be affected?

• Payments made through your bank’s bill pay system will not change.
• However, payments made directly through merchants using your SOCU Visa Credit Card number will need to be updated with your new card information.


Do I need to update digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay)?

• Yes. Once your new card arrives, you’ll need to remove your old card and add your new card number to any digital wallet you use.


Security Details

Will my expiration date or security code change?

• Yes. With your new card, you will receive a new expiration date and CVV, which helps strengthen security.


Can I keep my old card as a backup?

• No. Your old card must be securely destroyed once your new card is activated, as it will be permanently deactivated on May 18.


Will my old card number still work for refunds after May 18?

• Most merchants can process refunds to a replaced card number. We will ensure the system routes those refunds correctly to your account.


Rewards & Extras

What happens to my rewards?

• Your balance will be transferred over to a new and improved rewards site called SOCU Perks Plus Rewards which will now offer Cash Back Reward in addition to traditional points.


Travel & Special Circumstances

• What if I already have travel plans during this transition?


We recommend keeping both cards with you during this transition as well as having multiple forms of payment on you at any time while traveling. If you need assistance or a secondary card during travel, contact us ahead of time.
