Streator Township High School students are working to feed local families.

FOODstruction, a competition sponsored by the Bulldog Credit Union — a branch of Streator Onized Credit Union – involves three Silent Study Reading classes building forms out of canned and boxed food without using a bonding agent.

“They have to balance them or put them up against something,” said Ryan Neumann, branch manager at Bulldog Credit Union. “It’s a little harder than you think.”

The entries are a pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness by Tiffany Park’s class, a taco by Debra Kinsinger’s class and Caesar’s Palace by Amy Sipovic’s class.

The three creations can be voted on for 1 cent each through Friday, Nov. 9, at each of the participating classrooms, the Bulldog Credit Union or the Streator Onized Credit Union Northpoint and Shabbona branches. All money raised and all the food will be donated to the Streatorland Food Pantry.
