Streator Onized Credit Union (SOCU) is a community-focused organization that has been serving members for 78 years. They provide passionate service to members, the community and each other to create a unique experience of people helping people. SOCU is a full-service credit union, which offers great investment options, accounts for everyday use, in-house mortgages, and flexible loan options. What makes them different is that they look at members’ situations more than credit scores. They recognize that sometimes, bad things happen to good people and SOCU has a proven track record of helping people improve their credit.

In September 2011, SOCU received the Community Credit Union of the Year award in the under $250 million in assets category. This honor is given to community credit unions that excel in the advancement of the ideals of the credit union movement, are proactive in their community, and provide a wide array of services that meet the needs of their diverse communities. In 2014, SOCU was named one of the Top 200 Healthiest Credit Unions in America.

In 2016, SOCU began an extensive addition and remodel of the Owens branch in Streator to add on an additional 6,000 square foot of space. This project is in its final stages and will provide 45 full and part time employees a fresh, vibrant workspace with many modern efficiencies built in to help them better meet their members’ needs. Most of SOCU’s administrative staff will now work out of the Owens branch leaving more room for loan officers and tellers to serve members at the Northpoint Branch. Members using the new Owens branch will enjoy the widened drive-thru lanes, new 24-hour ATM, self-service coin machine and all of the frills of the new lobby’s coffee bar, complimentary charging ports in the seating area and a large television displaying current promotions and helpful information. Owens is where it all began for SOCU and this investment shows their dedication to the future of the Streator
community.
